Arabic is one of the most important languages in the world, and has been loved by Nigerians from the legacy of the historical and cultural heritage of the north-eastern Nigeria, where Arabic was its political, economic and diplomatic language; in addition to its religious status. Thus, the Arabic Language gained a prominent place in the hearts of African in general and Nigerians in particular. But, unfortunately, Arabic language has faced many challenges and obstacles that had prevented its development and spread since colonial days.
Therefore, the Department of Arabic came into existence with the creation of the Yobe State University by the Yobe State Government in 2006. It offers courses covering all aspect of the discipline. The Department has succeeded in maintaining high standard academic culture over years. We have highly qualified lecturers cutting across all cadres of lectureship, and our library is stocked with several materials ranging from the old manuscripts to most modern journals. We parade an army of lecturers who are found in several administrative segments of this University. Our academic contributions could also be assessed through the Departmental Journal which is one of the pioneer Journals in the University.
The Department is working hard to make sure that its programs outputs would allow the graduate students to be founded in both national and international labor market, and the Department aims to produce Arabic Scholars who are intellectually outstanding and orally fit for the onerous responsibility of nation building.
Finally, I welcome students of this great Department, and I wish you all the best throughout the period of your studies, and ensure that you utilize the knowledge, skills, and values to the nation. Indeed, a reading nation is certainly a wealthy and healthy nation.
May Allah bless all of you.
